Making people aware of the horrors of puppy mills is something we are extremely committed to. We urge people to STOP buying dogs from pet stores, as 99% of dogs in a pet store originated from puppy mills. Puppy Mills are commercial dog breeding facilities which do not care about their breeding stock. Puppy mills produce large volumes of sickly, genetically defective dogs for profit. These poor dogs spend their whole lives in cramped, filthy cages with no socialization, no exercise, poor nutrition, and no proper vet care. Reputable breeders would never sell their dogs to a pet store, buncher, broker, puppy mill, backyard breeder or at auctions. A backyard breeder is someone who breeds for fun or profit without properly testing their breeding dogs against known genetic defects. A backyard breeder may not have a lot of dogs, but could have several different breeds offered for sale and always have available puppies. Backyard breeders do not care about quality, healthy pups, its all about the money. A reputable breeder will only breed one or possibly two different breeds of dogs and will require a contract to protect both parties, will require a spay/neuter contract, will require several phone interviews along with a general questionaire, will want references, will be knowledgeable about their breed, will encourage you to visit the parents of the puppies, will offer a lifetime of support, and will want the puppy back if you are unable to care for it during anytime of the dogs life. I have the privilege of volunteering with some great organizations of which stopping the atrocities that puppy mill dogs are forced to endure are our #1 priority.
